break down to the hearings
2005-09-15 @ 10:12 p.m.

i finally broke down tonight and watched replays of some of today's hearings on roberts. usually a major junkie for this sort of thing, i haven't really been able to handle it this time around. thus far, anyway. watching the panel on civil rights was in part a who's who of many of the people i used to plan joint press cnferences with. the coalition of people who opposed ashcroft, priscilla owen, and other. they were confirmed. and so too, it seems roberts will be.

how people can speak right into a microphone and say that judge roberts believes in and will uphold equality under the law is beyond me. i've said this many times before in regard to the right, but it's either lies or delusion. either way, it's disturbing, to say the least.

wade henderson from the leadership conference on civil rights, rep. john lewis from georgia, and others, talking about their history working in the civil rights movement, leading marches in the 60s. and i think we all know that roberts would jump at any chance to fuck over everything that they--and so many other people--have worked for.

sidenote...
and, of course, there was nancy zirkin (formely with aauw, now with lccr) bobbing around in the background. and for a second, just a split second, i thought i saw wanda alston (may you rest in peace).
